Doug Anstaett, executive director of the Kansas Press Association since 2004, previously was editor and publisher of the Newton Kansan for 16 years and of the Brookings, S.D. Register for five. He also served in various capacities in the newsrooms at five other newspapers in Kansas, Nebraska and Missouri. He graduated from Kansas State University in 1973 with a bachelor of science degree in journalism and mass communications. He serves on the KSU Foundation as a trustee and is a former member of the K-State Alumni Association Board of Directors. During his newspaper career, he won first place awards in 1987, 1992, 1999 and 2002 in the William Allen White Editorial Excellence Contest sponsored by the Inland Press Association, also garnering the overall sweepstakes award in 1992.
